Founded in 1989 as the La Mesa Community Band, the San Diego Concert Band has grown into one of Southern California's premier community ensembles — nearly 100 musicians drawn from every corner of life: educators, engineers, doctors, pilots, attorneys, nurses, college students, and active Navy and Marine Corps musicians.
We perform throughout San Diego County and have taken our music to international stages. The band is supported entirely by member dues, sponsorships, and individual donations.

Music Director since 2011
Roy Anthony Jr. has served as Music Director of the San Diego Concert Band since 2011, bringing artistic vision and community spirit to every performance. A veteran music educator and conductor, he has directed district and community honor bands, served as conductor of the San Diego Civic Youth Orchestra, and guided the band from 50 members to nearly 100. Under his baton, the band has become one of Southern California's premier concert bands.

The San Diego Concert Band welcomes musicians of all backgrounds and skill levels. If you play a wind or percussion instrument and are interested in joining, we'd love to hear from you. Our Music Director meets with all prospective members to discuss section availability and find the right fit.

Donating to the Band is an opportunity to help the Band financially. Unlike other community bands, we have no school or cultural organization funding us. Every donation helps us pay for music, equipment and instruments, marketing and advertising, rehearsal space, performance venues, scholarships, and other operational expenses. We are entirely self-supported and would be grateful for your donation.
To show our appreciation, donor names will be listed in our Spring and Holiday concert programs for those donating $100 or more. Individuals donating between $250–$500 will receive two (2) tickets to both concerts. Donations greater than $500 will receive four (4) tickets to both concerts.
